Mississippi Chicken
(2007, 82
minutes, S-8mm on 1080p, color, USA)
A film by John Fiege
Produced by John Fiege, Anita Grabowski, Victor Moyers
John Fiege's
'Mississippi Chicken' explores the ongoing difficulties faced by the Latin
American immigrant population in a poultry town in the New South and the
increasing attempts to redress the balance. Observing the individual people
and stories over the course of one summer, this unique documentary builds a
rich, intimate tapestry of lives thus far disregarded by the mainstream
media. Contrasting lyrical vignettes of everyday life with the ever-present
pressures and injustices faced by its community, this finely-textured
documentary, with its gorgeously saturated super-8mm cinematography, is a
compelling document and a bold journey into a deeply complex and urgent issue.
